Merry Boys, PowerGen win outright

CERAMIC MERRY Boys and reigning champs Powergen widened the gap with
their eight other rivals after they each registered outright wins
yesterday, in Round Four of the Eastern Credit Union-sponsored National
Cricket League Premier Division.
Merry Boys got their fourth straight victory of the campaign,
hammering the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) by 10 wickets at
O’Meara, Arima.
Resuming the day on 215/7, and a 45-run lead, Merry Boys were bowled
out for 283 with Kenton Thompson notching 85, while ex-TT and West
Indies pacer Mervyn Dillon got 4/63, Emile Rajah 3/59 and Jahron Alfred
2/40 for UTT.
In their second innings, UTT were unable to cope with Merry Boys
captain Aneil Kanhai’s off-spin— he took 6/61 and Alcindo Holder 2/20 as
UTT made 193.

El Dorado eye PowerGen title

EL DORADO East Secondary can clinch their second consecutive PowerGen
Secondary Schools Cricket League title today when they play Fatima
College.
The defending champions will be hosted by Fatima College at their
ground in Port-of-Spain in the final round of matches. Allrounder Yannic
Cariah is expected to shoulder El Dorado’s batting and bowling attack
against an inconsistent Fatima College lineup.
El Dorado will also be depending on aggressive wicketkeeper/batsman
Aaron Alfred to give them the upper hand. The defending champions has
lead the standings since the first match of the season and currently
have 73 points.
However, if El Dorado loses they can be pipped for the title by
second placed Presentation College, Chaguanas or third place Hillview
College. Presentation College is on 63 points and Hillview College are
on 62 points with batting and bowling points expected to play an
integral role in deciding the title.

Dwayne Bravo (155) plunders Comets
March 7, 2010WEST INDIES and Trinidad and Tobago all-rounder
Dwayne Bravo made a stroke-filled 155 as Queen’s Park held the upper
hand against Alescon Comets yesterday at Pierre Road, Charlieville.
The match was one of five Round Four encounters in the Eastern Credit
Union-sponsored National Cricket League Premier Division.
Bravo’s knock, in 223 minutes, featured eight fours and 13 sixes off
140 deliveries, as the Parkites were bowled out for 307 in 70.4 overs.
He received support from his brother Darren (34), Leeward Islands and WI
batsman Runako Morton (28) and national batsman Daron Cruickshank (24).

Ramdhanie elevated in South Zone

JAI RAMDHANIE
JAI RAMDHANIE has replaced Carl Birjah as the secretary of the South
Zonal Council of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB).
Ramdhanie was appointed to the post after being elected unopposed in
a by election held last month after Birjah having reached the age of 60
wanted to retire from cricket.
Ramdhanie is 50-year-old and has been a committee member of the
Williamsville Sports Association for the past ten years and secretary of
the Poonah Sports club for 15 years.

Cricket Board thanks Queen’s Park

THE Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) has extended its thanks
to the Queen’s Park Cricket Club for the role they played in the
successful Haiti Benefit Match between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago
that took place on January 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.
In a press release issued the TTCB thanked the Queen’s Park members,
managed, staff and other stakeholders for the whole hearted support
provided to carry out the infrastructure planning while offering their
time an energy to bring the event to fruition at no cost.
Special mention was also made to the suppliers who provided goods and
services towards the humanitarian event at no cost. The TTCB also
highlighted the generous monetary donations provided by the Queen’s Park
members and corporate box holders towards the cause through their own
collection efforts on the match day. |
