Four players are returning from last year including Barath, allrounder Kjorn Ottley, fast bowler Brent Cameron and off-spinner Vaaroon Samaroo. The official document was witnessed by Ag. Group CEO of Eastern Credit Union, Derek Guerra, and General Secretary and CEO of the T&TCB, Forbes Persaud. A former West Indies wicketkeeper, Murray paid glowing tribute to the Eastern Credit Union for their enormous contribution they have made during their short partnership with the local board. “ I want to thank the Eastern Credit Union for their continuing support. The administration of cricket is vital in terms of setting the infrastructure, for the younger players to have the opportunity to play cricket both as a recreation and competition, but also as a stepping stone in fulfilling their potential to take their place at regional and international levels,” Murray said. He stated that the local board cannot do that without the support of partners. Murray said that the Eastern Credit Union has stepped in, only in the second year, but has been very vital in terms of innovations and the support they give to the National Cricket League, clubs and players. Bobb told the gathering that his organisation to commit to the National League was not a difficult one, since the youth are greatly influenced by negative elements and they see sports as an avenue to take them on the correct path through discipline, time management and respect for others. “Of course, the association with Credit Union has now facilitated other opportunites, for example, the financial development of the players and this is something we will definitely continue to do,” Bobb stated. He added that their corporate contribution to the development of cricket will further cement their position as a financial entity, which is in the business of creating wealth and changing the experiences of the members. Bobb wished the clubs a successful season and urged the players to demonstrate sportsmanlike qualities, that will reflect the true qualities of cricket – “ A gentleman’s game.” The season will bowl off on March 1 with defending champions FCB Clarke Road United hosting PowerGen Sports in the ‘Penal Derby’ at Wilson Road.
