Umpires Association At the South Zone Cricket Umpires Association's AGM held last Saturday in San Fernando, Treasurer of the South Zonal Cricket Council, Rudolph Ali, presented to the umpires a cheque for $12,000, representing stipends earned during the 2008 cricket season. Outgoing chairman Benjamin Hunt, expressed appreciation to the South Zonal Council, headed by 2nd Vice President of the T&T Cricket Board, Leo Doodnath, for their prompt settlement of the Umpires’ claims. He stated that only because of amicable arrangements between the Umpires and the Council, the South Zone Umpires receive the highest stipends amongst all Zones in the country. Newly elected chairman of the Umpires Body, Jeewanlal Sookhoo, also was high in praise of the way the South Zonal Council conducted its affairs, and pledged that his Association will continue to work together with the Council, not only to maintain the excellent relations between umpires and administrators which is evident, but will cooperate with the Zone in all efforts to improve the standard of cricket in the southland. He urged past players, supporters and anyone interested to join the umpiring fraternity.
