International Schools Tournament THE T&T National Under-17 team will start their defence of the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament, title, when they take on Antigua U-19 at the Banks Brewery today (Monday). The title-holding T&T team defeated Combermere High School in the final last year at Kensington Oval, and according to coach, Tarrandath Sammy the team will be going all out to repeat the feat in 2008. Four T&T teams are taking part in the tournament which has attracted schools from the Caribbean, Canada, USA, England, India, Australia in the past. Apart from the National U-17 team, Presentation College, Chaguanas, St Mary's College and Queen's Park Cricket are taking part in the well organised competition. Sammy said that his team is well focused on the task ahead, and is confident of doing well. " The preparations went according to plan, we had six weeks of hectic training, which would have included personal development training, net and physical sessions, and two practice matches against the T&T U-19 team. The team is well jelled and the confidence level is quite high," Sammy stated. The official opening ceremony took place last night (Sunday) at the Plantation Gardens. |
