Jaggie among players for special training

OUT-OF-FAVOUR rookie West Indies off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth is among 24 players invited by the T&T senior selectors to attend special training sessions for up-coming regional tournaments.

According to Adiministrative Manager of the T&T Cricket Board, Rambhai Patel, the first session will take place on Tuesday and will continue on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.

Before the start of the session, former West Indies Test wicket-keeper and current President of the T&TCB, Deryck Murray will address the players.

Several West Indies players are listed among the invitees including T&T’s captain, Daren Ganga, left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed, hard-hitting batsman Keiron Pollard, opening batsman Lendl Simmons and all-rounder Ravi Rampaul.

Notable omission from the list of 24 players are impressive Queen’s Park Cricket Club batsman Justin Guillen and all-rounder Rayad Emrit.

However, chairman of the senior selection panel and former West Indies youth captain, Dudnath Ramkessoon said that Guillen and Emrit were among several players who were not invited to these sessions because of overseas committments.

Ramkessoon explained that Guillen is currently participating in the Barbados Cricket Association’s local domestic competitions, while Emrit is playing league cricket in England, together with allrounder Richard Kelly, while former T&T and West Indies youth players Rishi Bachan and Jason Mohammed are having a short stint in Canada. Ramkessoon said that upon these players return to the country, they certainly will be invited to the sessions.

The sessions will be co-ordinated by national coach, Kelvin Williams, with support from assistant coach, Raphick Jumadeen.

The exercise will start at 4.30 pm at the specified days.
