ROUND-UP $100,000 up for grabs in Central Zone Close to $100,000 in prizes and incentives will be at stake in this year’s cricket competition organised by the Central Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket Board. This was revealed by Rambhai Patel, interim secretary of the three-man committee mandated by the executive of the T&TCB, to oversee the affairs of the zone for the 2009 season. The league competition will see teams battling for $45,000 worth of prizes and incentives, the Sunday League is expected to be sponsored to the tune of $27,000, while Ramsingh’s Sports World has pledged $22,000 towards the Twenty20 series. The league three-day competition will bowl off on February 7, with matches across Central Trinidad. CEO and General Secretary of the T&TCB, Forbes Persaud, along with Patel and two other members of the interim committee — lawyers Samuel Saunders and Lennox Sankersingh will be visiting most of the matches during the opening round. Meanwhile, high praises were showered on Patel by both Persaud and President of the T&TCB, Deryck Murray last Friday at the board’s get together function at the ‘Banquet Hall at the Queen’s Park Oval. The Senior Administrative Manager of the T&TCB, Patel was dubbed the ‘unsung hero’ of the local board. “ He is the livewire of the T&TCB, he is very efficient and his professional qualities are second to none. He is a person that any sporting organisation would want,” Murray stated. QPCC coaching clinic continues on Saturday The highly successful Queen’s Park Cricket Club Coaching Clinic will continue on Saturday at the Oval, starting at 8.30 am. Founded in 1956 by the late Noel Guillen, several national and regional players started their career at the clinic. Former T&T and West Indies opening batsman Bryan Davis took over in charge of the clinic in 1972 and since then many talented players have emerged including Darren Bravo, Justin Guillen, Imran and Asif Jan and Ricardo Paty. On Saturday from 9.30 am to 10.30 am the 10-13 age group will take centre stage. On Sunday, the seven to nine age group will undergo training from 8.30 am -9.30 am, while the age group 14-16 will show off their skills from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Sammy passes TT&A Course in England Tarandath Sammy, West Indies Level Two (2) Coach, and Coach of the Trinidad & Tobago National Under 17 Cricket Team, recently embarked on a Tutor Training and Assessors Course in England. Sammy who has been a Prison Officer for the last nineteen (19) years is the coach of the Prisons Team who campaign in the Division One (1) of the East Zone. Sammy also serves as chairman of the East Zonal Council, Secretary of the Youth and Coaching Development Committee of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board and also the President of the Coaching Association of Trinidad & Tobago. The course was conducted in England, from the 22nd October to the 7th November, 2008. Sammy was among five (5) other coaches from the West Indies on the course. The course outline dealt with the How ‘2’ and what ‘2’ Coaching skills. How ‘2’ using the skills of Explaining, Instructing, to Demonstrate, to Observe, to Analyse and what is now being introduced the review process, where people are allowed to self-reflect through the use of questions thereby assisting the coach to form corrective measures, if any is to be made. |
