$100,000 up for grabs in Central Zone

Close to $100,000 in prizes and incentives will be at stake in this year’s cricket competition organised by the Central Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket Board.

This was revealed by Rambhai Patel, interim secretary of the three-man committee mandated by the executive of the T&TCB, to oversee the affairs of the zone for the 2009 season.

The league competition will see teams battling for $45,000 worth of prizes and incentives, the Sunday League is expected to be sponsored to the tune of $27,000, while Ramsingh’s Sports World has pledged $22,000 towards the Twenty20 series.

The league three-day competition will bowl off on February 7, with matches across Central Trinidad.

CEO and General Secretary of the T&TCB, Forbes Persaud, along with Patel and two other members of the interim committee — lawyers Samuel Saunders and Lennox Sankersingh will be visiting most of the matches during the opening round.

Meanwhile, high praises were showered on Patel by both Persaud and President of the T&TCB, Deryck Murray last Friday at the board’s get together function at the ‘Banquet Hall at the Queen’s Park Oval.

The Senior Administrative Manager of the T&TCB, Patel was dubbed the ‘unsung hero’ of the local board.

“ He is the livewire of the T&TCB, he is very efficient and his professional qualities are second to none. He is a person that any sporting organisation would want,” Murray stated.
