WICB 4 Day Championship - T&T vs Jamaica
March 2nd 2009

Perkins in, Simmons out

T&T and West Indies Twenty20 opening batsman William Perkins has been drafted into the T&T 13-man squad for its ninth round match of the West Indies Cricket Board Four-day League Championship against defending champion Jamaica starting on Friday at Alpart Cricket Ground in Jamaica.

Perkins has come in for fringe West Indies opening batsman Lendl Simmons, who has been retained on the regional squad for the crucial fifth and final Digicel Test match against England, which also starts on Friday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.

Left-arm spinner Magnum Nanan, who bowled exceptionally well against Barbados in his debut match at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre, has again been selected, ahead of West Indies left-arm unorthodox spinner Dave Mohammed.

The team will be led by inspirational captain Daren Ganga and includes prolific run-getters — right-handed opening batsman Adrian Barath and left-handed middle-order batsman Darren Bravo.

The two players have been in good form throughout the season and will again be looking to impress the regional selectors in a bid to gain selection on the West Indies team for the summer tour of England later this year.

Also expected to address the selectors is pacer Ravi Rampaul, who has striked top form with the ball after missing the early matches in the regional series through a hand injury.

West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo, who smashed two centuries in four days for Queen’s Park in local domestic competitions, has ruled himself out for the contest against Jamaica, since he felt that his injured ankle has not healed properly.

The team will leave for Kingston today at 8 am.

T&T SQUAD: Daren Ganga (captain), Adrian Barath, Navin Stewart, Darren Bravo, Imran Khan, Sherwin Ganga, Gibran Mohammed, Magnum Nanan, William Perkins, Atiba Alert, Amit Jaggernauth, Ravi Rampaul. Manager: Colin Borde. Coach: Kelvin Williams. Physio: Ronald Rogers.
