Sookdeosingh powers PowerGen to U-23 semis

Left-handed opening batsman Nicholas Sookdeosingh continued his rich form when he smashed a superb century (105) against W Connection Wanderers that guided PowerGen into the semifinals of the T&T Cricket Board inaugural Under-23 tournament.

On Sunday at Gilbert Park in California, Sookdeosingh belted eight sixes and four fours off 83 balls as PowerGen record a two-wicket win against the home team.

Sookdeosingh shared in an opening wicket partnership of 143 runs with T&T Under-19 opening batsman, Evin Lewis (72).

In the 50-over contest, Wanderers batted first and got 103 runs from all-rounder Kareem Jumadeen as the teams totalled a competitive 248 for nine wickets.

Jumadeen, son of former T&T and West Indies left-arm spinner Raphick Jumadeen worked his bat for eight fours and three sixes. He got valuable support from T&T youth player, Omesh Ramoutar who scored 46.

Also in winners row was Felicity Invaders who registered a 72-run win against Alescon Comets in the “Central Derby” at the Invaders Ground in Felicity.

Batting first, Invaders led by 94 runs from David Livingston tallied 251 for nine from their 50 overs. Livingston recorded nine fours and two sixes and was well supported by Marc Brown who made 43.

In response, Comets were bowled out for 179 in 34 overs.

Dominican pacer Allan Laurent was the top bowler for Felicity with three for 45, while Livingston chipped in with two for 41.

There were also wins for Queen’s Park Cricket Club and Munroe Road Sports Club.

The ‘semis’ are carded for Monday.

AT CIC GROUNDS: Ceramic Merry Boys Sports 201-7 (50) (Samuel Felix 70, Daniel Legall 36) v Munroe Road Sports 202-8 (38.3) (Natram Wilfred 63, Beemul Gobinda 49, Saisnarine Sookdeo 39). M Road won by 2 wkts.


Chanderpaul lights up TML Night Cricket

Guyana and West Indies batting hero Shivnarine Chanderpaul paid a courtesy visit to TML/R. Khan Trading/Eniaths Printing Night Windball Cricket tournament last weekend.

Chanderpaul was very impressed indeed with the facilities and the general organisation of the annual competition held at the TML Head Quarters, Eastern Main Road, St. Joseph.

He was accompanied with his wife Amy and son Bradley and spent time at facility signing autographs and taking photos with fans.

A record 24 teams comprising Muslim Organisations and Jamaats throughout Trinidad are participating in the league. The teams are divided into four groups of six teams each.

The 10 - week competition will be contested on a round robin format from this weekend with games on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, starting at 6.30.

2008 defending champions, Nur-e-Islam Cricket Lovers (Group A) and runners up Endeavour Jamaat (Group B), along with Carapichaima Jamaat (Group D) all seeded teams remain unbeaten so far and lead their respective groups.


Cariah bowls ‘El Do’ into semis

T&T Under-19 allrounder Yannic Cariah bagged five wickets for 25 runs to bowl El Dorado Secondary Comprehensive to first innings lead against Barrackpore Seconday and a place in the semifinals of the PowerGen Secondary Schools League championship last Tuesday.

Right-arm leg-spinner Cariah weaved a magical spell against the opposition who were dismissed for a measly 68.

‘El Do’ with an unbeaten 51 from national youth wicketkeeper Aaron Alfred reached 85 for one before ‘Barrack’ conceded the match.

Defending champions Presentation College, Chaguanas, took a further step towards a successful title defence after they won on first innings against Toco Composite.

"Pres" dismissed Toco for 77, with Yannick Ottley taking five for 25. And they reached 101 for six when Toco surrendered.
