LOCAL CRICKET ROUND-UP

TML cricket rolls into second round of action

After two months of competitive and exciting cricket, the TML / R. Khan Trading and Eniaths Printing Night Windball Cricket Competition rolls into the second round (knockout) of matches this weekend.

Defending champion, Nur-E-Islam Jamaat of San Juan and Charlieville Jamaat were the only unbeaten teams in the first round.

All 24 teams will still have a chance to compete for a trophy. The first four teams from each group advance into the round of 16 and the fifth and sixth place teams vie for the best of the rest trophy.

Matches continue every Friday and Saturday night from 6.30 until the finals and presentation ceremony carded for Saturday, April 18th (Summit Saturday).

All games are played under lights at the TML Headquarters, Eastern Main Road, St. Joseph. Door prizes are given out to spectators nightly.

Standings:

Group A - Nur-E-Islam Cricket Lovers 10 pts, Islamic Missioneries Guild 6 , Bamboo Jamaat 6 , Ghaleeb 6, Trinidad Muslim League (TML) 6 and Islamic Dawah Movement (IDM) 0.

Group B - Charlieville Jamaat 10 pts, Endeavour Jamaat 8 , Masjid-ul-Haqq (Diego Martin) 6, Mujahideen 4, Enterprise Strikers 2, Jamaat-ul-Muttaqeen 0.

Group C - ASJA Markaz 8 pts, Nur-E-Islam Youths 6 , Masjid-ul-Laah (Curepe) 6 , St. Thomas Masjid (Chaguanas) 4 , Baitul-Uloom (Charlieville) 4 , Toco Road Jamaat 0.

Group D - Four Roads Jamaat ( Freeport ) 8 pts, Ryan Street Jamaat 8, Carapichaima Jamaat 8 , Preysal Muslim Youths Org. Al Ikhwan Jamaat (Montrose) 2 , North Eastern Muslim Youths 0.


Herrera lead North/North-East against West of England

Promising allrounder Cristian Herrera of Fatima College will lead a strong North/North-East Combined Secondary Schools Cricket League team, against the visiting West of England U-16 Schoolboys on Tuesday at O’Meara, starting at 10 am.

Also included in the North/North-East team is Savion Lara, cousin of former West Indies batsman Brian Lara.

The team will be coached by Aslim Mandol and managed by Inrish Jattan.

Alexis hits brilliant hundred in BG TT U-19 series

T&T’s Under-17 batsman Nicholas Alexis struck a brilliant 113 to lead North to exciting 11-run victory against Tobago, in the opening round of the BG TT U-19 competition, earlier this week at Shaw Park in Tobago.

Alexis blasted 13 fours and three sixes to help North tally an imposing 237 for nine in the allotted 50 overs.

In response, Tobago led by stroke-filled 92 from national youth player Ako George, made a valiant attempt to reach their victory target but in the end they fell short by 11 runs.

Yateley Manor beats Rochard Douglas by 93 runs

Yateley Manor Primary School of England opened their week-long tour of T&T on a winning note when they defeated Rochard Douglas Presbyterian School by 93 runs on Wednesday at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground in Penal.

Batting first, Tately amassed 198 in the allotted 30 overs, and then restricted Rochard Douglas to 105 for nine.
