LOCAL CRICKET ROUND-UP
April 22nd 2009

National under-19 player, Akiel Cooper struck an unbeaten century to lead his team to victory over a Nicholas Alexis XI as the T&TCB/BGTT quadrangular U-19 tournament bowled off yesterday at Inshan Ali Park.

Moruga resident, Cooper led by example, hitting an unbeaten 102 to steer his team to 259/4 in their allotted 50 overs, while being ably assisted by Sachin Boodram with 46 and Kieron Joseph, who hit 43.

In reply, Marc Panchu’s formidable knock of 85, was not enough to guide his side to victory, and the Alexis XI fell short by 44 runs, as they got to 212 for 7.

Shaheed Mohammed finished with figures of 3 for 42 and Kyle Borneo, one for 29 for the Cooper XI.

In the other game at the National Cricket Centre (NCC), Evin Lewis smashed a century to lead Cariah XI to a 65-run win over Ottley XI. Batting first, the Cariah XI compiled a healthy 256 for four in its 50 overs on the strength of Lewis’ 103. Videsh Sookhai chipped in with 38 while captain Yannick Cariah (28) and Silas Cooper (27 n.o.) were also among the runs. Nicholas Rampersad was the best of the Ottley XI bowlers with figures of three for 54.

In reply, Ottley XI stumbled to 191 all out in 50 overs. Kharry Pierre (2-14), Cariah (2-15), Kissoondath Magram (2-29) and Ricardo Mikoo (2-22) each did their share of the damage with two wickets each. Khamrhaj Mewalal was the top scorer with 32 while Amir Khan made 31.

Cariah XI won by 65 runs.

Henry hits 239 in South East cricket

Trevor Henry playing for Yorkshire against Biche in the South East Zonal Cricket Council Senior division struck a magnificent 239 to lead his team to an innings and 136-run victory at Cunjal.

Batting first, Yorshire tallied an impressive 401/9 declared with Henry hitting 239 and Azad Dean 65. Biche United in response was bowled out for 164. Following on they were bundled out for 101 - losing the match by an innings and 36 runs.

SOUTH EAST SENIOR DIVISION

At Cunjal: Yorshire 401/9 dec (Trevor Henry 239, Azad Dean 65) vs Biche United 164 and 101. Yorkshire won by an innings and 36 runs.

At Marac: Trenchtown 320 (Aldwyn Toussaint 78, Shaun Williams 56, Winston Emmanuel 51) & 151 vs St. Mary’s Superstars 260 (Clifton Gomez 52, Winston Emmanuel 5/32) - Match drawn.

At Perry Young: Valley Boys 213 (Majid Khan 95no, Ronnie Bedassie 6/90) & 251 (Nathan Roopan 85, Roger Seenath 4/71) vs Renown 208 (Chamanlal Ramnath 71, Videsh mohammed 6/64) - Match drawn.

At Guayaguayare: Guayaguayare vs Rio Sports - did not play.

DIVISION I

At Tableland: Tableland 214 & 321/8 dec(Shiva Rajkumar 100no) vs Untouchables 265 (Deoraj Sookhoo 70, Kumar Rampersad 71) & 155/3 (Steve Sankar 73no) - Match drawn.

At Barrackpore: Barrackpore 101 & 201 vs Mafeking 137 and 74 - Barrackpore won by 91 runs.

At Pompey Park: Cushe 210 & 409/7dec(Isadore Vialva 155) vs Blended 113 & 139 - Cushe won by 367 runs.

At Rio Claro: Christian Conquerors 116 & 168 vs Santa Maria 164 & 109.


Mohammed hits another ton in South

Cosmos player Zaheer Mohammed continued his impressive form over the weekend getting his second century in as many rounds as competition in the South Zonal Cricket Council continued.

Mohammed had scored 114 not out against T-Birds in round four and showed up against HYO in round five and cracked 124 to lead his team to a first innings win.

Batting first HYO scored 146 with Shammie Rampersad getting 86. Cosmos replied with 282 with Mohammed scoring 124. Batting a second time HYO scored 222 with Shammie Rampersad scoring a brilliant 126 and the match ended in a draw.

Spinner Adesh Seegobin was also in fine form and grabbed 12 wickets for Clarke Rochard against T&TEC in a drawn match. T&TEC made 174 batting first with Seegobin taking 7/30. Clarke Rochard then replied with 198 with Ancil Bhaggan taking 7/46.

The consistent Keagan Jaggessar then scored 102 as T&TEC fought back to reach 300/9 declared. Seegobin took 5/105 for match figures off 12/135. Batting a second time Clarke Rochard reached 120/6 and the game was called as a draw.
