EASTERN CREDIT UNION PREMIERSHIP DIVISION
May 22nd 2009

Leaders P/Gen enjoys home advantage in crucial round

Title-chasing PowerGen Sports will enjoy home advantage when the crucial Round Eight of the Eastern Credit Union Premiership Division bowls off today at various venues throughout the country.

The ‘Electricity Boys’ who lead the 10-team standings with 86 points, will host W Connection Wanderers at Syne Village in Penal.

An outright win for the home team will strengthened their claim for a third Premiership title, having been successful in 2000 and 2006.

PowerGen will be without the services of T&T and West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul who is on duty with regional team in England, however, they still boast of a solid line-up with the likes of discarded T&T and West Indies left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed, the dependable Sherwin Ganga and wicketkeeper/batsman Gibran Mohammed.

Wanderers who are third in the table on 68 points, will depend on T&T and West Indies 20/20 batsman William Perkins and the evergreen Narine Bideshi to turn back the challenge of PowerGen.

Tile Depot Central Sports with former Guyana and West Indies right-arm leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo at the helm will make the trek to the Cunupia Recreation Ground to battle relegation doomed Munroe Road Sports.

Central Sports who are 17 points shy of PowerGen will be seeking full points against their lowly-rated opponents to stay in contention for the coveted championship title.

In another interesting encounter, defending champions Ceramic Merry Boys who are 26 points behind PowerGen is expected to take maximum points from bottom of the table Moosai’s Sports at Honeymoon Park in Tacarigua.

A win for the Merry Boys will give them a chance to stay alive for championship honours.

In other matches, FC Clarke Road United will take on Alescon Comets at Wilson Road in Penal, while Queen’s Park will host Clico Preysal at the Oval.

Matches start at 10 am.
