| TTCB – News LOCAL CRICKET
ROUND-UP PowerGen, Clarke Road in ‘Red Hot Derby’ PowerGen Sports, who are virtually assured of the Eastern Credit Union Premier Division title, will be seeking to underline its superiority against arch-rivals FC Clarke Road in a ‘Red Hot Derby’ in the final round of competition on Saturday at Syne Village in Penal. Winners in 2000 and 2006, PowerGen leads the ten-team standings with 159 points and could only be surpassed by the ‘Bank Boys’ from Wilson Road in Penal. However, Clarke Road will have to score more than 400 runs and bowl out the opponents twice and also to restrict the “Electricity Boys’ to no bonus point. Also holding a far outside chance is Queen’s Park who will come up against dethroned champions Ceramic Merry Boys Sports at the St Mary’s College grounds in St Clair. The ‘Parkites’ will be without their inspirational captain Justin Guillen who left earlier this week to take up a contract with Hartley Cricket Club in Kent, England. Queen’s Park will have to score a big victory against Merry Boys and hope that the Tribunal rule in their favour in the unplayed Round Three fixture against Alescon Comets. But with the prize for second place team standing at $70,000 both sides will be eyeing an outright win. In the North and South Championship Divisions, UTT and Rahamuts Evergreen are assured of the titles respectively and will be promoted to the Premiership in 2010. Point standings after nine rounds.
