EASTERN CREDIT UNION PREMIERSHIP DIVISION
June 15th 2009

Comets, Queen’s Park match to replay

The tribunal of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) has ordered that the Round Three match in the Premiership Division between Alescon Comets and Queen’s Park be replayed. Justice Annestine Sealey headed the tribunal included Justice Rolston Nelson, Attorney at Law Seenath Jairam SC, with Ousman Ali as secretary.

The match was scheduled to be played on March 28 and 29 at the Fatima College grounds in Mucurapo, but not a ball was bowled because of ‘ground problems’.

Officials of Comets had written to the T&TCB requesting full points from the match and the matter was referred to the national disciplinary committee, chaired by Justice Prakash Moosai with Dr Errol Furlonge, Samuel Saunders, Clarence Shaffrali and Alvin Hackshaw, being the other members.

The disciplinary committee ordered the match be replayed, but Comets appealed the decision and it was then sent to the tribunal.

The judgment of the tribunal was handed down last week to the local board and executive members of the Premier Division will meet on Tuesday to decide on a date to complete the outstanding fixture.

However, sources close to the board said that the match has been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair.

If and when the match is replayed, Queen’s Park, who are currently third in the standings with 130 points, will have to find 41 more points, to overhaul champion-elect PowerGen Sports on 170 and six to move into second spot ahead of FC Clarke Road United.

Meanwhile, manager of the PowerGen team, Chaitram Ramjitsingh was elated at his side’s success during the season and praised the players’ dedication to the sport.

“I feel elated at winning this premiership title for the third time. It is our second title in 2009, having won the Carib Twenty20 final against W Connection Wanderers earlier this year. This is all due to the hard work and dedication by the players and other members of the technical staff. We are a very disciplined team, who will choose to show our worth on the playing field,” Ramjitsingh said.
