High praises for Central’s interim committee
July 13, 2009
The interim committee of the Central Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket
Board (T&TCB) came in for high praises from the local board’s executive
including president Deryck Murray and CEO and general secretary, Forbes
Persaud.
The praises were sung at the zone’s annual
presentation of awards held on Sunday at the National Cricket Centre in
Balmain, Couva.
Murray thanked the interim committee headed by
Attorneys at Law, Samuel Saunders and Lennox Sankersingh and secretary
Rambhai Patel.
He said that at one stage, they did not know if
there would be cricket in Central Trinidad given the turmoil left by the
previous administration.
“These gentlemen worked assiduously to ensure that
cricket was played. I also want to say thanks to the various clubs, who
in tandem with the interim committee ensured it was a successful
season,” Murray said.
Also coming in for kudos were two long-standing
members of the zone William Jeffries and vice president of the Clico
Preysal Sports Club - Mansur Baksh, who are both members of the
disciplinary committee.
In his report, Saunders indicated that there were
no presentation ceremony in 2008 and the umpires were not paid.
“When we took office in November, all our financial
responsibilities were taken care of, we have paid all our outstanding
debts, we paid the umpires for 2008 and 2009, we are the first zone to
hold our presentation function and we still have something extra,”
Saunders said.
Bobby Sookoo of Balmain United Sports Club was
named ‘ Player of the Year’ in Division One, while John Peter Road
Sports Club was voted ‘Club of the Year’.
Former T&T youth left-arm spinner Boya Sahdeo was specially honoured by
the zone for outstanding services and contribution to Central Zone this
year.
