TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge Preview – TT vs Windwards and Motivational Speech T&T chances of retaining their Limited Overs title in the 2009 TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Cricket Challenge was dealt a severe blow yesterday with heavy torrential showers posing problems for their all important fourth round clash today against the Windward Islands at Sabina Park. The local team has picked up two win from their three matches and must win today to stay in the mix and hopes that something goes round with Jamaica. T&T had a rigorous net and physical session yesterday before the heavens open up and local weather experts has forecast that the showers will continue over the next few days. Head of the technical staff and former T&T allrounder Kelvin Williams is confident that if play is possible, the team will come out on top against the lowly-rated team. “ We had some good matches in both versions of the games. The team has made a few mistakes and will surely learnt from them . We intend to end the month long series in a blaze of glory. Also it is a good time for some of the individuals to addess the regional selectors in an effort to gain selection on the West Indies team for next year’s Youth World Cup in New Zealand,” Williams told the Trinidad Guardian. Meanwhile, Manager, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications of the TCL Group, Alan Nobie, addressed a Motivational Workshop for the teams yesterday at the Pegasus Hotel. He said that this is the seventh consecutive year of the TCL Group’s sponsorship of this exciting cricket challenge. And their passion statement is “One Caribbean, One Company” and the series have provided them with the opportunity to exemplify this, as it brings together teams from across the region, with a strong mission of Building Caribbean Excellence in West Indian cricket. “ Specifically, we firmly believe that sport contributes not only to individual progress and national solidarity but it also brings discipline to life; encouraging dedication, teamwork and camaraderie among sportsmen and women. These attributes are essential in day-to-day living and in engendering well-rounded individuals who contribute to the greater good of society,” Nobie said. “ It is with this in mind, that we readily began sponsoring this series and we continue to do so year after year because we are aware of the contribution it makes to the development of the youth of the region. Our Under 19 Cricket Challenge series focuses on their rich talent. They are the future of West Indies cricket and we are pleased that this tournament affords them the opportunity to shine, enhance their skills and become professionals in the field,” Nobie added. He stated that the TCL Group is not only concerned with the development of the region’s youth through the sport of cricket but also takes an interest in cultivating good investment practices among them, an attribute that would enable them to manage their financial resources. “This is why, over the years, it has become customary to reward the players of the winning teams for both the Test and One day Matches with TCL shhares. Each player on the winning team receives TT$1000 worth of shares. We trust that this investment will help them on their way to an even more promising future,” Nobie further stated. In other matches today, Leeward Islands and Barbados will clash at Jamalco, while Jamaica will take on Guyana at Melbourne. |
