| TTCB – News Doodnath dismisses
Mahabir In response to reports circulating , Leo Doodnath, chairman of the South Zone of the T&T Cricket Board, has emphatically stated that defeated candidate ‘Lequay Loyalist’ Baldath Mahabir’s claims that the zone’s elections for the club representatives ended in uproar, was untrue. According to Doodnath, the meeting was peacefully conducted with thirty five (35) persons representing eighteen (18) clubs participating up to the very end of the process. Doodnath was adamant that Mahabir’s “sour grapes” claims, “is indicative of his loud mouthed, manipulative and misrepresentation of facts approach to administration.” Doodnath admitted that while Mahabir, who is President of Clarke Road United of Penal, was within his rights to contest the elections, he questioned how it is he represented Young Lions of Piparo at the meeting. “Imagine Baldath has never set foot on Young Lions Recreation Ground in Piparo. None of the players from Young Lions have ever met Baldath personally. He has never played for Young Lions. He is and was never a part of the administration of the Young Lions Club. Yet he had the audacity to stand up in the meeting and declare that he is from Young Lions!” Doodnath commented. Doodnath even accused Mahabir of deliberately misleading the public by disseminating false information to other media houses. “There was nothing unconstitutional about the meeting,” Doodnath asserted. He referred to excerpts of Articles 7 and 8 of the board’s constitution which states in part: “Each Zone shall be managed by a zonal council comprising representatives of clubs participating in the competitions . Each club accepted in the zone competition shall be asked to submit nominations for the election of club representatives on the council. The Zonal Secretary shall convene a meeting of the said clubs (each club accepted in the Zone competition) for the purpose of electing the representatives.” Doodnath insisted that these were the very steps and procedures which were strictly adhered to for the elections. “Baldath (Mahabir) is repeatedly attempting to hoodwink the public into believing that the elections were unconstitutional, yet at no time is he saying which article of the constitution has been violated,” Doodnath scoffed. “It’s a case of political propaganda,” Doodnath warned. Doodnath’s slate, which is supportive of the Deryck Murray-led -T&TCB administration, convincingly won the elections. Doodnath polled thirty five (35) votes to Mahabir’s two (2) votes. |
