TTCB – News A great night at TTCB dinner ![]() left to right: Harry Narine, Alloy Lequay, Allyson Ali, Alicia Cedeno Veteran T&T cricket administrator, Alloy Lequay, made a surprise but welcome appearance at the T&T Cricket Board's end-of-the-season dinner at the Sir Frank Worrell National Cricket Academy at Balmain, Couva, on Saturday night. Lequay, who served as both president and chief executive officer of the TTCB, never set foot at Balmain after his administrators lost the 2005 elections to former West Indies wicketkeeper, Deryck Murray. But he returned from the wilderness after his team of loyalists regained control of the Board at the last elections on October 31. Lequay was the talking point of the night. As one guest put it, "Chief, is four years, we have not seen you." Lequay, on most occasions smiled, and said, "It is good to be back, is four years I have not set foot on these premises." Since Murray took the reins of the Board in 2005, Lequay, a former West Indies Cricket Board director, stayed away from cricket and many felt that it was the end of his long and distinguished career as an administrator. On his arrival, Lequay was greeted by new president, Azim Bassarath, and the executive officers of the Board. Also returning was Ellis Lewis, the president of the Board from 2003 to 2005. T&T captain, Daren Ganga, made a late appearance at the dinner. Injured West Indies opening batsman, Adrian Barath, was also there along with national manager, Colin Borde, and coach, Kelvin Williams. In his short address to the gathering, Bassarath thanked all, including the sponsors, who supported the Board over the years. Noticeably absent was Forbes Persaud, the CEO of the Board, who was given marching papers last week.
The night did not end without the major surprise - the presentation of an award to Ann Brown-John, a female member of the TTCB. Given a national award at Independence Day 2009, Brown-John was praised by the Board, and fellow executive member, Patrick Rampersad, for her sterling contribution to T&T. Rampersad pointed out that Brown-John, played both hockey and cricket for T&T, was a member of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) development committee, executive member of the T&T Women's Cricket Association, and was an International Cricket Council (ICC) appointee. A Customs officer by profession, Brown-John also played a leading role in the ICC World Cup tournament in the Caribbean in 2007. Photo Gallery
