TTCB – News Cricket Board pays tribute to members, friends By ZAID MOHAMMED
THE TRINIDAD AND Tobago Cricket Board recently paid tribute to its new members, office staff and friends at an End-of-the-Year Function staged at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre in Balmain, Couva. Specially invited guests were warmly greeted by president of the TTCB Azim Bassarath who said the function was organised primarily to thank everyone who has contributed to the development of cricket locally. He pledged to fulfill the mandate given to him last October 31 when he defeated the incumbent Deryck Murray for the presidency of the TTCB. The TTCB also used the opportunity to honour one of their own, Ann Browne-John who was given a national award last August 31 on the occasion of Independence Day for her contribution to sport. TTCB senior executive member Patrick Rampersad read out the glittering achievements of Browne-John, a former teacher who is now a top Customs and Excise Officer. Browne-John who captained the national cricket and hockey teams holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve on the West Indies Cricket Board. She was presented with a plaque in acknowledgement of her unstinting commitment and service to sport over the years by TTCB president Bassarath. Among those who attended the function on January 2 was Alloy Lequay, former president of Chief Executive officer of the TTCB making a return to the National Cricket Centre after four years. He reminded guests that he left after losing the presidency to Deryck Murray but as happy to be back after being invited to attend the End-of-the-Year Function by the new administration. The National Cricket Centre was the brainchild of Lequay who had a vision for the development of the sport which combined first class facilities with holistic and scientific coaching and development programmes. Also making an appearance was Justice Anthony Lucky who was one of the founder of the Movement for Change initiative which swept Murray and his Friends of Cricket slate out of office. Justice Lucky currently sits of the Law of the Sea Tribunal which is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.
