TTCB – News Gray new Under-19 coach FORMER West Indies pacer, Anthony Gray has been appointed the new coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 cricket team. National coach, Kelvin Williams held the position in an interim role during last year’s TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Championship which was held in Jamaica. Gray who played five Test matches and 25 One-Day International matches for the West Indies held the post as manager of the national Under-19. He will have the experienced Roland Sampath as manager as the new administration of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board seek to turn around its under achieving youth programme. Sampath served as manager of the West Indies Under-19 team which finished as runners-up at the ICC Under-19 World Cup hosted by Bangladesh in 2004. First Citizens Clarke Road coach, Dasrath Majaraj will take charge of the national Under-17 team. He replaces Tarandath Sammy with John Lewis selected at the new manager. The national Under-17 team was formed to bring the gap between the Under-15 and Under-19 age groups and normally competes at the Sir Garfield Sobers International School Boys Under-19 tournament in Barbados. School teacher Glen Dwarika replaces Baldath Bodoes as coach of the TT Under-15 team. The national Under-15 team has struggled to secure regional titles despite having several talented players coming through the ranks such as Yannic Cariah, Isaiah Rajah, Yannick Ottley and Kissondath Magram. Former national Under-15 coach, Bachan Buchoon is the new manager and will provide experience for Dwarika after leading the national Under-15 team to a hat-trick of titles under his tenure. Buchoon has played an instrumental role in the development of players such as Ravi Rampaul, Lendl Simmons, Denesh Ramdin and Tishan Maraj. Former national cricketer, John Pollard will take charge of the national Under-13 team with Benjamin Santo the manger. President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath when elected to office stated that emphasis will put on youth cricket and to ensure a constant supply of quality cricketers are produced. |
