TTCB News BG T&T cricket a breeding ground
NEWLY elected president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath, is urging young cricketers to use the BG T&T Under-15 National Zonal Tournament as a springboard to attract attention for international recognition. Bassarath said Adrian Barath, Denesh Ramdin, Lendl Simmons, and Dwayne Bravo all matured from playing as young cricketers in the tournament. "And now you have seen where these players have reached," Bassarath said. "You too could achieve like those who have gone before if you take the game seriously." At the time Bassarath was speaking at the formal opening ceremony of the BG T&T sponsored competition at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva on Monday. Bassarath thanked BGTT for their involvement in youth cricket over the last 15 years. He told the young cricketers: "Take the game from a positive standpoint to address the selectors, and the national community and let your name be constantly echoed in every household on a regular basis and you will be well on the way to gain international recognition." Bassarath thanked the parents and teachers of their players who have come along to support your children and said it was a healthy sign." East Zone won the BT T&T tournament last year, according to Lalman Kowlessar, the second vice president of the TTCB , who chaired the function. "From all appearances the Central Zonal Team would be difficult to beat this year for they have been hard at training," Kowlessar said. Before the start of the opening match, officials met the players while the BG T&T Challenge Trophy and the sponsorship cheque were handed over to Bassarath by Zakiya Mills-Francois, RBTT Communications Advisor.
