$20,000 at stake in Evening T20
February 9, 2010

THE Penal Sports Association, in conjunction with the Unique Books & Sports Centre, recently launched their 2010 T20 Evening Cricket Competition.

A total of $20,000 is at stake and matches will be played over two evenings – Tuesdays and Wednesdays – starting at 4.30 pm.

Leo Doodnath, President of Penal Sports, one of the oldest yet most vibrant minor leagues in the country, stated that many years ago, even before T20 cricket became popular, the Penal Sports regularly organised 20 overs evening cricket as it was then called, on an annual basis, and that the response from both teams and spectators in those days were phenomenal.

He expects that the revival of this competition will once again bring back the excitement and large crowds to evening cricket in Penal and environs.

Two separate competitions are being organised so as to cater to teams with varying skill levels. One competition is open to clubs with a maximum of three “T&T Cricket Board” players, while the other caters strictly for minor league players.

Both competitions begin on February 23. Registration can be done at the Penal or San Fernando branches of the Unique Books & Sports Centre. A meeting of all participating clubs for fixtures and rules etc, has been carded for Thursday, February 18 at 7 pm at the Debe High School. For further info contact Leo Doodnath at 346-3636.

Penal Sports T20 Prize Structure:

Div. 1 (Max. 3 “TTCB” Players)— Winner: $7,000; Runner Up: $3,500. Two defeated Semi Finalists: $1,500 each

Div. 11 (Strictly Minor League Players)— Winner: $3,000; Runner Up: $1,500. Two defeated Semi Finalists: $1,000.
