TTCB – News Merry Boys focus on Sunday League CERAMIC Merry Boys will be placing greater emphasis on the Carib Sunday League when they play PowerGen today at St Mary’s College Ground, Serpentine Road, St James. The defending champions recently finished fourth in the Carib Twenty20 tournament and third in the Eastern Credit Union after having good opportunities to win both titles. Alcindo Holder has returned to the Merry Boys lineup after representing Barbados in a warm up match against Bangladesh recently in preparation for the ICC World T20 tournament. The Bajan player forms a formidable batting lineup which includes Mario Belcon, Lendl Simmons, Richard Kelly and Aneil Kanhai. The Patna based club also has an experienced bowling attack which includes pacers Kervon Christmas and Atiba Allert combined with the spin of Kenton Thompson. PowerGen will be tough opposition coming of their successful Carib Twenty20 title defence against Alescon Comets on Friday night at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain. The Eastern Credit Union Premiership Division winners will again be leading with their all spin attack. Trinidad and Tobago spinners Dave Mohammed, Samuel Badree and Sherwin Ganga will be shoulder most of the bowling responsibility. Alescon Comets will be aiming to rebound from their Carib Twenty20 loss when they take on SIS Central Sports Invaders at Pierre Road, Chaguanas. Allrounder, Rayad Emrit is expected to lead the Comets team after stand in captain Suruj Ragonnath suffered a going injury during the Carib Twenty20 final. Central Sports will again depend on allrounder Gary Mathuring and spinner Narendra Bridgelal. First Citizens Clarke Road will host Clico Preysal at Wilson Road, Penal. The hosts will have a difficult match against a steadily improving Preysal team. Veteran Mukesh Persad and allrounders Hoomchan Pooran and Mahadeo Moonasar are in good form. Pacer Shannon Gabriel is expected to play a major factor along with allrounder Yannic Cariah and Shazan Babwah. Queen’s Park is expected to beat the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) at Omera. The Parkites will have a strong squad with opening batsman Nicholas Alexis in good form. The national Under-19 batsman is expected to be called for national trials and has shown his class along with Akiel Hosein and former West Indies batsman Runako Morton. W Connection Wanderers will be favourites to beat Rahamut’s Evergreen at Gilbert Park, California. Last year’s runners-up have will be looking to skipper and opening batsman William Perkins to guide them. However, Evergreen has a good chance of registering an upset victory with allrounder Steven Jacobs and left-arm spinner Jovan Ali in good form. |
