TTCB – News T&T to face Leewards at the Oval TRINIDAD and Tobago cricketers will play their next regional fixture of the 2011 season at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain after the West Indies Cricket Board agreed to shift the venue from the National Cricket Centre at Balmain in Couva. The change was confirmed yesterday by Azim Bassarath, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board who said he was in full agreement and supported the decision of the WICB. Trinidad and Tobago are currently second in the regional standings of the four-day competition at the midway stage with 33 points, chasing Jamaica who are on top with 36 points. In third spot are England Lions, three points adrift. Bassarath said the main reason for the change of the venue was the possibility of rain next weekend when T&T host bottom of the table Leeward Islands as the Balmain ground does not drain off easily. “We are hoping to get four full days of cricket so T&T can press forward for regional honours but there was the concern that rain would play a great part in the outcome if the match was staged at Balmain,,” said Bassarath. He said the decision of the WICB to shift the match to the Oval was a good one and he was confident that T&T Cricket Board officials and their counterparts at Queen’s Park would work together to ensure all arrangements are in place for the fifth round fixture next weekend. Fifth Round WICB Matches: Jamaica vs Combined Campuses and Colleges, Chedwin Park, Jamaica; Barbados vs Windward Islands, Kensington Oval, Barbados; Trinidad and Tobago vs Leeward Islands, Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain; Guyana vs England Lions, Guyana National Stadium. Regional Standings 1 Jamaica 36 pts |
