BG T&T tune-up for defending U15 champs
March 15, 2011

A CLASSIC match-up between Central and South highlights an exciting semi-final stage of the BG T&T Under-15 cricket tournament which will be contested next Tuesday and Wednesday (March 23 and 24).

Central is brimming with confidence but is expected to face a strong challenge from traditional rivals South in the important grudge match scheduled for Presentation College in Chaguanas.

The other clash for a place in the final will involve East and South East at Honeymoon Recreation Ground in Tunapuna. Starting time for both matches is 10 am.

The last four emerged after topping their respective groups. East and South were grouped with North and South West while Central and South East were bunched with Tobago and North East.

Winners of the respective semifinals will meet for the BG T&T Under-15 Championship on March 31 and April 1 at National Cricket Centre at Balmain in Couva.

Manohar Ramsaran, Administrative Manager of the T&T Cricket Board said that the BG T&T tournament will more than adequately prepare the next generation of national and regional cricketers for the upcoming West Indies Under-15 tournament which will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago.

The former Government minister and Member of Parliament said on Tuesday that this year's competition will change its traditional one-day format to blood the youngsters in the longer form of the game. The 2011 series will be played over two days.

The West Indies Under-15 tournament is likely to be staged between July 2 and 16 here in Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago are defending regional Under-15 championships and will be keen to retain the crown especially playing before their come crowds.

Ramsaran highlighted the significant contribution BG T&T has been making in sponsoring the Under-15 tournament which he said ensures that the local players get the opportunity to fine-tune their skills and impress the national selectors.
