TTCB – News North East success surprises top cricket official
A TOP local cricket administrator has expressed his pleasant surprise at the recent success of the North East age group teams in 2011 zonal competitions organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (T&TCB. Lalman Kowlessar, second vice-president of the T&TCB in congratulating fellow executive member and chairman of the North East Zone Arjune Ramlal, stated their hard work has established the district as the new resource pool for young cricketers in Trinidad and Tobago. Apart from yesterday’s 50-over championship match, North East have also qualified for the BG T&T Under-19 Final, a two-day affair against close rivals East, which gets going on Thursday and ends on Friday at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva. Kowlessar, a former Presentation College, Chaguanas History Master and successful cricket coach for many years was speaking before the final of the BG T&T Under-17 final between Central and North East at the National Cricket Centre on Wednesday. Also present for the short ceremony to mark the occasion was Wendell Constantine, Sponsorship and Brand Manager of BG T&T; along with Arjune Ramlal and Manohar Ramsaran, General-Secretary and Administrative Manager respectively of the T&TCB. “North East deserves to be in the final as are Central whose manager and coach must be praised for reaching another important final. The progress of North East has been noted and is reward for the good work of the zone administrators and natural talent of the players,” said Kowlessar. The well-known administrator also pointed to the significant contribution sponsors BG T&T have been making to the development and growth of the game at the age-group level and pledged the T&TCB’s willingness to continue their partnership into the future. Kowlessar asked Constantine to convey his sincerest appreciation to the heads at BG T&T who he said had put their money where their mouth is and without whom the level and quality of play in the competition would not have reached such a high standard. Earlier General Secretary of the T&TCB Ramlal had delivered a rousing address to the teams emphasising that both zones deserved to be meeting for the big prize as they had produced exceptional cricket throughout the season. “This is a great opportunity for you to grab the attention of the national selectors and to gain some national recognition by getting your names and pictures in the media through your effort on the field of play. You must not waste this chance which can open doors for you in the game,” advised Ramlal. The T&TCB General Secretary declared that at the end of the day he is confident T&T cricket is in the capable hands of the young talented players represented by the finalists in the BG T&T Under-17 competition. This theme was taken up by Constantine, who throughout the season has been greatly supportive of the partnership between BG T&T and the T&TCB by his presence at all the important occasions in the Under-17 and Under-19 zonal competitions sponsored by the local affiliate of the English multinational. Constantine told both teams to always respect each other and take time out to congratulate one another at the end of the match. He urged them to bear in mind that they were playing for all the young people of Trinidad and Tobago and they must take pride in their achievements on and off the field. |
