Penal derby in Ultra Lubricants U16 Final
April 27, 2011

FCB CLARK Road United will clash with PowerGen Sports Club on Thursday in the final of the Ultra Lubricants Under-16 cricket final which will be staged at the Avidesh Samaroo Park in Endeavour, Chaguanas.

The 40-over match-up for a first prize of $40,000 will be a day-night affair which gets underway at 4 pm.

Dudnath Ramkessoon, first vice-president of the T&T Cricket Board has predicted an entertaining match which he said has generated tremendous interest among supporters of the finalists who both hail from the Penal district of south Trinidad.

He said the T&TCB was pleased with the involvement of National Petroleum (NP) Limited, sponsors of the tournament which was introduced to the local cricket calendar in 2011 to provide competition in the Under-16 age group which over the years has been neglected.

Ramkessoon said players in the final will also get an opportunity to address the national selectors with an eye on the first West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under-16 Championship which will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago in June.

“It is an excellent opportunity for the leading cricketers to show their worth and stake a claim for inclusion on the T&Tl team for the regional tournament,” said Ramkessoon who is also chairman of selectors for the senior national team.

While the winners on Thursday will collect $20,000, the runners-up will have to settle for half that amount ($10,000). The losing semi-finalists get $4,000 each and the defeated quarter-finalists pocket $2,000 each.

Total sponsorship by Ultra Lubricants is in excess of $75,000 with umpires sharing in the lucrative tournament to the tune of $24,000 while trophies and medals costing $3,000 will also be distributed.

Incentives for the players totalling $2,500 will be on offer in the final on Thursday.
