TTCB – News Courts Inter Zone cricket bowls off CLUBS not involved in the top competitions organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board will get an opportunity to upstage their more celebrated counterparts when the Courts Inter Zone tournament bowls off on Thursday (May 05, 2011). In the feature match South will come up against South East from 10 am at the Woodland Recreation Ground in Woodland, San Francique. Both teams, strong contenders for honours in Group “B” will also face South West and Central for a place in the semi-finals. Tobago cricketers will also be in action today playing in Group “A” and will open their campaign at home against North East. The other teams in that group are East and North. Preceding Thursday’s feature fixture at Woodland will be an opening ceremony at which officials of sponsors Courts will preside including Mrs Paula Daniel-Linton, Marketing Manager and Karen Theophilus, Marketing and Public Relations Officer. The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board will be represented by Azim Bassarath, president who is expected to be accompanied by Manohar Ramsaran, Administrative Manager and Baldath Mahabir, executive member and T&T representative on the West Indies Cricket Board. Ramsaran said yesterday the T&TCB recognises that cricketers across the spectrum of club cricket in T&T must be afforded an opportunity to take the big stage and praised the generosity and display of corporate responsibility by Courts. President of the T&TCB, Bassarath said he was pleased with the standard of cricket played in the T&TCB competitions which has so far produced seven champion teams, a tally certain to increase when the Courts and Under-13 competitions are completed later this month. “This season an unprecedented number of competitions have already been completed and we are lokking for more strong performances in the Courts Inter Zone competition,” said Bassarath. “The investment in the cricketers by providing this opportunity to play a top level competition for valuable prizes and incentives has demonstrated that the T&TCB is working with corporate sponsors to ensure the growth and development of the game at all levels,” said Bassarath. Last year East and South shared the Courts Inter Zone spoils in a rain-affected final.
