TTCB – News Central clinch BG TT Under-13 crown
CENTRAL Zone Under-13 cricketers were crowned BG TT national champions when they scored a comprehensive victory against East in a rain-affected final at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva. Brian Boodram hit a stroke filled 55 to pace Central to 122 for four after their captain Sachin Balai had won the toss and elected to bat as strong winds and intermittent rain lashed the Balmain ground on Wednesday. In their reply East tumbled to 71 for seven as Shawn Vialva (two for 16) was well-supported by Emilo Bryan, Bryan Boodram and Saiba Batoosingh who took one wicket apiece for Central to formalize the result. The victory was particularly sweet for the Central cricketers as they were forced to share the Under-13 championship title last year with South after the weather affected the final. Preceding the final, Arjune Ramlal, general secretary of the T&TCB described BG TT as an integral part of youth development demonstrated by their strong support of the age group tournaments over the years. Ramlal extended his appreciation to Wendell Constantine, BG TT's Brand and Sponsorship Manager for contributing to the elevation of Trinidad and Tobago cricketers to the pinnacle of regional excellence through the youth competitions. "Cricket brings with it positive values and can help shape one's life in a positive way and sustain the proud tradition and enrich the culture of the game in the West Indies," said Ramlal. He said that BG TT should be proud that all of the current T&T players in the West Indies team and those starring for the national team have all passed through the youth leagues. Ramlal urged the youngsters that they should strive to match their excellence on the field of play with strong academic results as their work in the classroom supports their ability to analyze and deal with situations in a critical manner while applying all the latest technology available. He said that while the result of the final is important the players should focus instead on where they see themselves in five years when he suggested they should be addressing the regional selectors for a place on the Test team. Also present at the opening was Manohar Ramsaran, the Cricket Board's Administrative Manager; and T&TCB second vice president Lalman Kowlessar.
