A DATABASE OF 144 Trinidad and Tobago’s top Under-15 cricketers is being seen as key to strengthening the resource pool of the national team according to Kumar Rampat , the West Indies Cricket Board’s Territorial Development Officer.

Rampat said that following the conclusion of the Digicel Grassroots Programme with a two-day camp scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (June 25, 26) valuable information will be documented to track and assess the strengths and weaknesses of the youngsters.

Just back from an ICC Coaching Course in Dubai, Rampat said the new information will replace a similar document representing all the statistics and match reports for the period 1995 to 2005 which has been reported lost.

The camps this weekend however should represent a turning point in Rampat’s effort to compile scientific data mined from three phases of the Digicel Grassroots Programme which started on December 5 and led up to the recent Inter-Zone Under-15 Championship.

The camps will be staged at eight centres throughout Trinidad and Tobago and will involve the leading Under-15 cricketers receiving the opportunity to engage in remedial work over two days which will suitably prepare them for the next step in their budding careers.

The centres being used are Presentation College in Chaguanas; El Dorado East Secondary School; Princes Town West Secondary School; St Mary’s College Ground, St James; PowerGen Ground, Penal; North Eastern College, Sangre Grande and the Happy Hill Recreation Ground in Rousillac.

Rampat said he recently held a very fruitful meeting with the respective co-ordinators of the Digicel Under-15 Grassroots Programme where they were briefed on what was expected of them, data forms were distributed and pertinent questions were asked and answered about the upcoming exercise.

“It is important to point out that the young cricketers will also be schooled in other aspects of the game including the values and standards that they should adopt along with sessions to help them develop their listening and communication skills,” said Rampat.

Among the co-ordinators involved in the closing segment of the Digicel Under-15 Grassroots Programme are Ash Sinanan (South West); Ravi Motilal (North East); Nigel Maraj (East); Rydell Ramsaran (South East); Kismet Mohammed (North); Edward Narine (South); Mozack Rahamut (Central).
