Bassarath: Centurion Bravo gives WI hope
November 1, 2011

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board (T&TCB) has congratulated batsman Darren Bravo on scoring his maiden Test century which put the West Indies in a commanding position in the Second Test against Bangladesh which enters its final day on Tuesday (Monday night) in Mirpur.

The 22-year-old left-handed Bravo fell five runs short of a double-century in only his tenth Test appearance, slamming 12 fours and five sixes in a memorable innings which gave further proof of  his growing reputation as a player with tremendous potential.

On Tuesday, newly re-elected president of the T&TCB, Azim Bassarath said that the Santa Cruz –born  Bravo has made every T&T national proud with his exquisite display and is beginning to demonstrate the qualities of a top class cricketer.

“We must all remember that Darren Bravo is yet another successful product of the T&TCB’s cricket development  programme and we are all happy to see that he has opened his account in great style and we are certain that he will grow from strength to strength,” said Bassarath.

Bravo, a stylish strokeplayer  is the younger brother of West Indies allrounder  Dwayne Bravo, who was omitted from the WI touring party in Bangladesh but was recently appointed captain of the WI “A” team to face Bangladesh “A” in an upcoming series in the Caribbean.

Bassarath said that Bravo represented the  new breed of T&T cricketers who have been adequately prepared by the programmes put in place for their holistic development and inevitable graduation into regional and international stars ready to take their place in world cricket.

“Like Adrian Barath before him, Darren Bravo gives us great pride and joy in his ability to demonstrate his strong cricket pedigree and he gives us hope for the next generation of cricketers being churned out at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre at Balmain,” said Bassarath.
