Union National League DEFENDING champions FCB Clarke Road United held the upper-hand against arch-rivals PowerGen Sports Club at the end of the opening day in the Eastern Credit Union National Cricket League yesterday at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground in Penal. The home team led by a four-wicket-haul from former T&T youth left-arm spinner Dane Teelucksingh, dismissed the former champions for a meagre 121 in a rain-affected day’s play. Teelucksingh bagged four 38 and was well supported by Sean Siloch with three for eight and Windward Islands fast bowler Kenroy Peters three for 37. Peters was making his debut in the local domestic competition. In reply, Clarke Road were 97 for three when play ended. At Gilbert Park in California, W Connection Wanderers were facing an up-hill battle for first innings lead against Ceramic Merry Boys Sports. Batting first, Merry Boys were routed for a modest 152, with out-of-favour T&T leg-spinner Sanjiv Gooljar picking up four for 61. In response, the David Williams charges were struggling at 118 for nine. Former T&T batsman Aneil Kanhai was the chief destroyer for Merry Boys with six for 33. On the final day of Round One at Gilbert Park in California, yesterday, Felix struck 111 in Merry Boys second innings of 255 for five declared. Felix’s innings lasted 235 minutes and he struck nine fours. Earlier, Wanderers resumed on 118 for nine, chasing Merry Boys first innings total of 152 and were dismissed for 134. Off-spinner Aneil Kanhai was the top bowler with six for 39, while former West Indies left-arm spinner Neil McGarrell bagged three for 42. In their second turn at the crease, Wanderers reached 102 for four. At Wilson Road in Penal, defending champions FCB Clarke Road took first innings points from neighbours PowerGen Sports Club. Resuming from their overnight position of 97 for three, going at the opposition paltry first innings total of 121, Clarke Road declared at 215 for seven, with the hard-hitting Varendra Maharaj scoring an unbeaten 70. T&T allrounder Samuel Badree was the top bowler for the ‘Electricity Boys’ with six for 61. Batting a second time, PowerGen Sports closed at 180 for eight. At Inshan Ali Park, Ricardo Paty lashed 109 to guide Queen’s Park to first innings points against Clico Preysal Sports. In the Central ‘Derby’ Alescon Comets led by half-centuries from Guyanese Vishal Singh and former T&T and West Indies opener took first innings points in a stalemate against Munroe Road Sports at the Cunupia Recreation Ground. Going at Munroe Road total of 161, Comets declared on 200 for four, with Singh hitting 80 and Ragoonath 53. In arrears by 39 runs, Munroe Road reached 252 for seven when the match was called off. Division Two March 1st and 2nd 2008 OUT-of-favour T&T middle-order batsman Imran Jan led from the front to guide Moosai’s Sports to a five-wicket-win against Ihsan Endeavour Sports in the opening round of the Eastern Credit Union National Cricket League Division Two competition last weekend. Jan scored 76 and 42 as Moosai’s romped easy winners against the home team at the Avidesh Samaroo Park in Chaguanas. Also in winner’s row was British/American Aranguez Sports who registered an easy eight-wicket over Superb Caterers Couva Sports at the Couva Recreation Ground. Round Two action will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
