Hurley, Babwah shine for Preysal

FORMER Barbados and West Indies allrounder Ryan Hurley stole the spotlight in the penultimate round of the Eastern Credit Union National Cricket League, yesterday at the Cunupia Recreation Ground.

The right-arm off-spinner bagged seven for 21 which helped Clico Preysal Sports to dismiss bottom of the table Munroe Road Sports for a meagre 90 runs in the crucial encounter.

Hurley was well supported by former T&T Under-19 fast bowler Shannon Gabriel who picked up two for 23. In reply, Preysal Sports closed on 210 for four, with skipper Shazan Babwah hitting 103 off 114 balls with seven fours and five sixes.

He was well supported by former Guyanese batsman Azeemul Haniff who stroked an elegant 70 with six fours and two sixes.

In the top of the table clash at Syne Village in Penal, leaders Ceramic Merry Boys Sports tallied a competitive 235 against title-chasing PowerGen Sports.

Former T&T and West Indies middle-order batsman Lincoln Roberts scored 50, and out-of-favour T&T batsman Aneil Kanhai made 38.

T&T allrounder Samuel Badree was the main wickettaker for PowerGen Sports with five for 75, while T&T U-19 off-spinner Vaaroon Samaroo grabbed two for 35 and former West Indies youth left-arm spinner Rishi Bachan picked up two for 51.

The “Electricity Boys” in reply ended on 96 for four. At Pierre Road Recreation Ground in Charlieville, defending champions FCB Clarke Road United tallied a challenging 285 against Alescon Comets.

Leading the way with the bat for Clarke Road was out-of-favour T&T batsman Gregory Mahabir who made 74. In reply, Comets closed on 28 for one.

At Gilbert Park in Calfornia, Queen’s Park led by a polished 90 from the impressive Justin Guillen declared at 302 for eight against W Connection Wanderers. The left-handed Guillen lashed 14 fours and three sixes in his exciting innings in Central Trinidad.

Wanderers were on the ropes on 49 for two when stumps were drawn. Deens Baird is unbeaten on 38.
