LOCAL CRICKET ROUND-UP
November 24th 2008

South-West praises Persaud, Doodnath, Sammy

HIGH ranking officials of the T&T Cricket Board came for in for high praise at the annual awards ceremony of the South-West Zonal Council held recently at the Vessigny High School.

Chairman of the zone, Krishendath Ramoutar praised the efforts of the local board CEO and General Secretary, Forbes Persaud , second vice-president Leo Doodnath and executive member Dr Allen Sammy for their vision in reviving the newly re-structured zone.

“We would like to recognise Dr Allen Sammy for his role in the re-establishment of the Zone.

We must also recognise Mr Leo Doodnath and Mr Carl Birjah of the South-Zone who very efficiently facilitated the establishment of the Counci,” Ramoutar stated.

Ramoutar said that the South-West Zone has always turned great cricketers and it is pity that the zone was scrapped a few years ago by the previous administration.

“The South West Zone has always been home to great cricketing talent. One of the first names that come to mind is Gus Logie, who proudly represented our regional West Indies team for many years. He will not be the last. I urge all our players to use this opportunity as a platform for your great talent.

We know that the talent is out there, we’ve seen it. The challenge is now for you to go from strength to strength; and to keep striving for continuous improvement; only this way will you be to realize your full potential. I have no doubt that we have the calibre of talent worthy of moving on the national and even regional stage, the ball is certainly in your court, or more appropriately, in your hands,” Ramoutar said.

He also paid tribute to Administrative Manager of the T&TCB, Rambhai Patel for his tremendous assistance during the season.

Raphael Teeluck of Rousillac United captured the coveted ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award.
