South Zone Ramsingh semis on Sunday

The semi-finals of the Ramsingh-sponsored limited overs cricket series will be played Sunday. Favourites for the title, Clarke Rochard will come up against a determine Young Lions team at Independence ground, Scott’s Road in Penal. the other clash will see a battle between Poonah of Williamsville and San Francique of Penal. They will meet at Carat Hill in Barrackpore. The winners of these matches will meet in the grand finals on May 30 under lights at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre. The winners of this match will walk away with the first prize of $5,000. Sunday’s matches will get off at 1pm.

Valley Line, Metronomes clash in Bri-Ann quarters

Valley Line will come up against Metronomes in the quarter-finals of the Bri-Ann Twenty/20 limited overs cricket series at Sunrise ground in Penal on Sunday. Valley Line played unbeaten in the preliminary rounds, winning the Ramesh Bissoon’s group with three wins from as many matches.

Metronomes on the other hand finished the Selvon Connell’s group with just one point. They however topped the group because the other two teams had only one point each and Metronomes had a superior run rate of 7.77.

In other quarter-final matches, Vikings play Happy Boys at Merry Boys ground, Stars battle Mercernaries at Sunrees Road and Sunrise battles Green Rocks at Metronomes ground.

T&TEC shocks them to take second division

T&TEC Sports club won the second division of the South Zonal Cricket Council, playing unbeaten in the four matches.

The ‘Electricity Boys’ had three outright wins and one no-result in their campaign and finished with 82 points. They were closely followed by X-Men of Carat Hill in Barrackpore. The Dinesh Ramdass-led team had two outright wins, one loss and one no-result in their four games, to garner 64 points.

Coming in third was San Francique United with 54 points from two outright wins, one loss and one no-result. Independence followed with 34 points having just one victory, while Union Hall finished their campaign, losing all four matches.

Chairman of the South Zone, Leo Doodnath praised the efforts of T&TEC saying that they displayed professionalism throughout the season and it paid off for them in the end. “T&TEC was one of the model clubs this past season. They played great cricket and what brought this on was the fact that they played as a professional unit. This augurs well for the league and it is my hope that others follow in their footsteps.”

Sachin Boodram stars in South Zone

NATIONAL under-17 player Sachin Boodram turned in a fine all round performance on Sunday to lead his team Clarke Rochard to a 71-run victory over Petrotrin at Clarke Rochard’s ground in Penal, in the first division of the South Zonal Cricket Council competition.

Batting first Clarke Rochard made 223 for four declared with Dave Ramsawak top-scoring with 79 and Shivanand Sankar getting 68. Boodram struck some lusty blows in an unbeaten 33.

Petrotrin in reply was bowled out for 130 with Boodram the right arm off-spinner claiming four wickets for 27 runs. Luen Joseph supported with two for 17.  

Batting a second time Clarke Rochard declared at 57 for four, setting Petrotrin a realistic target off 151 runs for victory. Boodram was then almost unplayable and he scalped seven batsmen for just 19 runs to bowl out Petrotrin for 79.  

In another clash, the veteran Reynold Siewdass continues to mesmerize batsmen with his off-spin, as he claimed a seven-wicket haul in a drawn encounter against Ben Lomond at Williamsville. Siewdass took seven wickets for 67 runs to bowl out Ben Lomond for 197. Young Lions in reply got to 251 for nine declared with Shazim Khan striking an even 100 and Naseeb Hosein 44. The game petered out into a draw with Young Lions taking first innings points.

At Penal: Clarke Rochard 223/4 dec(Dave Ramsawak 79, Shivanand Sankar 68, Sachin Boodram 33 not out) & 57/4 dec v Petrotrin 130 (Sachin Boodram 4/27, Luen Joseph 2/17) & 79 (Sachin Boodram 7/19) - Clarke Rochard won by 71 runs.  

At Williamsville: Ben Lomond 197 (Jamil Radhay 69, Reynold Siewdass 7/67) v Young Lions 251/9 dec (Shazim Khan 100, Naseeb Hosein 44) - match drawn.  

At Hermitage: T-Birds 230 (Ravi Samaroo 3/60, Damian Jadoonanan 3/55) v Hillpiece 255/7 dec (Ravi Samaroo 123 not out, Chad Persadie 50 not out) - match drawn. At Pleasantville: Poonah 123 & 211 v Juniors 270 & 69/3. Juniors won by 7 wickets.
