Trial Match November 5th, 2008

Emrit’s team score exciting win in trial match

Talented left-handed batsman Darren Bravo struck a fluent 43 off 59 balls with three fours to lead a Rayad Emrit team to an exciting three-wicket-win against a Darren Ganga side in a specially arranged trial match at the National Cricket Centre at Balmain in Couva, yesterday.

The match was organised by the T&T Cricket Board to prepare the national team for the up-coming West Indies Regional Championship in Guyana later this month.

Chasing a victory target of 185 runs in 42 overs, the Emrit team reached the landmark with fours balls in the contest remaining.

Lending good support to Bravo was adventurous opening batsman who hit 38 off 57 deliveries with three fours.

Off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth was the leading bowler for the Ganga team with three for 26, while medium-pacer Kevon Cooper picked up two for 22.

Earlier, fast bowlers Rayad Emrit and Ravi Rampaul fresh from outstanding performances in the recently concluded Stanford Twenty20 Super Series, carried on in that same vein against the Daren Ganga led team.

Emrit, was a member of the Stanford Superstars squad which whipped England by 10 wickets in a US$20 million winner take all match, led from the front taking three for 27, while Rampaul bagged three for 33.

Spinners Dane Teelucksingh (2-11) and Sherwin Ganga (2-22) chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Only skipper Ganga 48 with five fours and former T&T and West Indies youth opening batsman Adrian Barath 45 with three fours offered resistance against the pace and spin attack employed by Emrit.

Another match is carded for Friday at the same venue.
