LEAGUE LIMITED OVERS COMPETITION ‘Champs’ Merry Boys surged into final 16 Title-holding Ceramic Merry Boys Sports surged into the final 16 of the Carib Sunday League Limited Overs competition, with another authoritative win in Group A, in the final preliminary roundon Sunday against Calcutta Sports at the Calcutta Recreation Ground. Led by out-of-favour T&T batsman Aniel Kanhai, Merry Boys batted first and scored a modest 152 in 33.3 overs. Former T&T youth opening batsman Samuel Felix made 64, while Barbados’ Alcindo Holder contributed 40. In reply, Calcutta were bundled out for 96, with former T&T left-arm spinner Ken Hazel picking up three for 14 and current national allrounder Richard Kelly three for 22. Merry Boys, Caldrac and Munroe Road have moved on to the final 16 of the 50-over tournament.The final spot in Group A will be a toss up between Police or Barataria Ball Players. In Group B, the qualifiers are Wanderers, Clarke Road, Invaders and Endeavour, while in Group C, Comets and Preysal have qualified with the final two places expected to come from Diamond, Spoilers or UTT. In Group D, PowerGen Sports, Queen’s Park (1) and Central Sports have qualified, with Evergreen and Curepe being involved in a toss for the remaining spot. The knock-out stages of the series will be played on Saturday.
