CARIB SUNDAY LEAGUE LIMITED OVERS TOURNAMENT
February 22nd 2009

Perkins punishes PowerGen
.... Wanderers sail into final

West Indies Twenty20 batsman William Perkins, fashioned a stroke-filled half-century against PowerGen Sports , to guide W Connection Wanderers into the final of the Carib Sunday League Limited Overs competition, yesterday, at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.

The stylish right-handed batsman slammed an unbeaten 93 off 91 balls, which included six fours and three sixes, as Wanderers chasing a modest target of 137, achieved the feat in 29.4 overs, with 20.2 overs remaining in the contest.

Perkins was very severe on left-arm spinner Visham Ramroop’s bowling, when he clobbered the former T&T youth player for 28 runs in his sixth over.

Earlier, PowerGen won the toss and opted for first strike and were restricted to 136 for nine in the allotted 50 overs.

The team from South Trinidad was indebted to a face saving fourth wicket partnership of 89 from Rondell Ramlochan (49) and Akiel Cooper (36).

None of the other batsmen offered resistance to the well disciplined bowling attack employed by skipper Sanjiv Gooljar.

Medium-pacer Kenroy Williams (3-24) and Theodore Modeste (3-27) were the top bowlers for Wanderers.

Wanderers will play the winners of the Ceramic Merry Boys and Alescon Comets clash carded for March 7 in the final.
