ECU Premier League Round 2

Day 2
March 1st 2009

Bravo blazes another century ...
Nagamootoo takes 16 wickets

T&T and West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo registered his second century in three innings for Queen’s Park in a drawn encounter against W Connection Wanderers in Round Two of the Eastern Credit Union-Premier Division Cricket League, on Sunday at Gilbert Park in California.

Bravo lashed a brilliant 101 from 124 balls which included five sixes and 10 fours, as Queen’s Park after gaining a 38-run-lead on first innings closed on 347 for seven in their second innings.

Bravo received admirable support from former T&T youth opening batsman Marlon Barclay who made 99 with 15 fours.

The right-handed Bravo, who struck a brilliant unbeaten 126 on Thursday against Woodland Sports in a Twenty20 fixture at the Oval, also scored a workmanlike 46 on Saturday with six fours and two sixes off 61 balls, to help the ‘Parkites’ tally a competitive 240 in their first innings.

Wanderers, in reply, were dismissed for 202 with former T&T youth fast bowler Rishaad Harris picking up seven for 54.

Bravo last played competitive cricket in July in 2008 in the fifth and final One Day International (ODI) against Australia in the Caribbean, before under-going surgery to his left ankle in October last year.

The 25-year-old Bravo, who has played 31 Tests and 88 ODIs, is anxious to return to international cricket.

And former Guyana and West Indies leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo captured a match-haul of 16 wickets for 86 runs, to guide Tile Depot Central Sports to an innings and two-run win against Moosai’s Sports at Honeymoon Park in El Dorado.

Nagamootoo who bagged nine for 54 in Moosai’s first innings, continued his fine bowling form with a remarkable haul of seven for 32 as Moosai’s in arrears by 100-run, were dismantled for 98 in their second turn at the crease.

Earlier, Central Sports pushed on from 166 for five to 258 all out, which allowed St Lucian-born Gary Mathurin to score his maiden ton of 115 runs in the local domestic competition.

Also recording an outright win was PowerGen Sports who defeated Munroe Road Sports by 10 wickets at Syne Village in Penal.

PowerGen responding to Munroe Road meagre first innings total of 114, went on to tally 326 for four declared. PowerGen massive total was built around unbeaten centuries from youngsters - Nicholas Sookdeosingh (121) and Rondell Ramlochan (105). The duo featured in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 228 that tilted the balance in their team’s favour.

Sookdeosingh batted for 234 minutes and struck four fours and six sixes, while Ramlochan’s innings spanned 197 minutes and included six fours and a six.

In arrears by 212 runs, Munroe Road crashed to 214 all out, with T&T and West Indies left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed picking up six for 55.

At St Mary’s College grounds, ex- national left-arm spinner Ken Hazel ended with a match haul of nine for 42 for Ceramic Merry Boys Sports in a drawn contest against Alescon Comets.
