CARIB TWENTY20 SERIES March 4th 2009

Narine bowls Queen`s Park into semis

Queen’s Park Cricket Club under a fine bowling performance from T&T off-spinner Sunil Narine surged into the semifinals of the Carib Twenty20 Series with a eight-wicket win against Munroe Road Sports, on Wednesday, at the Cunupia Recreation Ground.

In a rain affected match, the ‘Parkites’ won the toss and inserted Munroe Road, who were restricted to 70 for nine in the allotted 20 overs. Saisnarine Sookdeo was the only batsman to offer resistance with a stubborn 17. Narine who made his First-Class debut for T&T against Guyana recently was the top bowler with four for 14 from four overs.

Lending good support were Marlon Barclay (2-8) and T&T and West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo (2-10.

Set a revised target off 46 in 13 overs, Queen’s Park raced to victory in 7.4 overs, with Daron Cruikshank hitting a blistering 29.

The three other quarterfinal matches — Invaders /Wanderers, Merry Boys/Clarke Road and PowerGen/Preysal were all rained out and will be played on Thursday starting at 2 pm.

AT INSHAN ALI PARK: Ihsan Invaders Sports v W Connection Wanderers (rained out).

AT NATIONAL CRICKET CENTRE: Ceramic Merry Boys Sports v FC Clarke Road United (rained out).

AT GILBERT PARK: PowerGen Sports 59-1 (6) (Evin Lewis 30, Nicholas Sookdeosingh 24 not out) v Clico Preysal Sports. (match abandoned through rain).
