Agents win East 35-over title
April 16th 2009

Agents Sports Club of Arima captured the 35-over title of the T&T Cricket Board East Zonal Council competition, when they defeated Dinsley Cricket Club by one wicket in the final contested on Easter Monday, at the UTT ground in O’Meara.

Agents needed five runs in the final over with two wickets in hand. It went down to the wire with Agents needing two runs of the last ball of the match, with the last wicket pair inside. The extra ball a result of a wide earlier in the over was edged past slips for four. Dinsley's aspirations of a repeat this year was crushed.

The teams were met before the start by Forbes Persaud, General Secretary of the T&TCB, Tarandath Sammy, Chairman of East Zone and Cyril Duncan, Match Referee. After the thrilling finish Deryck Murray President of the T&TCB, commended both teams for the keen contest and said that it was sad for one of the teams to loose but truly 'Cricket was the Winner'.

The progress of the East Zone was hailed noting that the foundation was great with the U 15 and U19 East Zone squads having already won BGTT National titles. Special tribute and thanks was also given by all to the facilities so far developed at the UTT Campus in O'Meara with such a fantastic outfield.
