Singh hits century lifts Esperanza to double titles

Ali Roadstars Esperanza Sports captured the Central Zonal Council 40-over limited overs title, with a comprehensive 140-run-win against Balmain United on Saturday at the Exchange Recreation Ground in Couva.

It was the first of the coveted double for the Esperanza team.

Esperanza got an unbeaten century (118) from Guyanese Garvin Singh in a total of 298 for four off the allotted overs.

Singh smashed 12 fours and three sixes in his knock of 118 and received good support from Rudy Ramdeen who scored 85.

In response, Balmain folded for a disappointing 158 in 32 overs, with only Rixon Pancham (33), Bobby Sookoo (31) and Ramdeen Bidhesi (24) offering resistance.

Top bowlers for Esperanza was Rossi Ramsaroop with three for 41. Also among the wickets were Maxie De Jong with two for 18 and the impressive Gareth Ali with two for 22.

Singh captured the ‘Man of the Match’ award, while Esperanza pocketed the winning prize of $4,500 and a trophy, while Balmain collected $3,000.

On Monday at the Edinburgh Ground, Esperanza defeated D&D McBean Sports by 39 runs in the final of the Ramsingh’s Twenty20 Series.

Esperanza batted first and were dismissed for 126, to which McBean replied with 87.

Esperanza’s Deodath Arjune who made an important 24 and bagged two for 18, earned the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

For their winning effort, Esperanza took home $4,000, while McBean got $3,000 for reaching the final.
