UNION PREMIER DIVISION Day 2 Khan guides Comets to victory A fine all-round performance by national player Imran Khan, guided Aleson Comets to a comprehensive innings and 35-run win against Munroe Road Sports in Round Five of the Eastern Credit Union Premier League competition, at the Pierre Road Recreation Ground in Charlieville, on Sunday. Comets collected 29 points from the encounter to lift themselves from the bottom of the ten-team standings. The right-handed Khan scored 69 in Comets’ first innings total of 356 and then captured a match haul of seven for 91 to bowl his team to a convincing win against their neighbours. Also turning in a fine bowling performance for Comets was pint-sized right-arm leg-spinner Kissoondath Magram who ended with a match analysis of five wickets for 50 runs. The remaining four matches ended in stalemates. At Gilbert Park in California, T&T Under-19 allrounder Yannick Ottley stroked an unbeaten 103 to help Clico Preysal Sports earn a commendable draw against W Connection Wanderers. In arrears by 193 runs on first innings, Ottley struck 15 fours and a six in his second knock at the crease which spanned 217 minutes and 154 balls. The right-handed batsman scored a boundary from the last ball of the match to achieve his landmark, as Preysal closed on 250 for three. Ottley received good support from U-19 colleague Aaron Alfred who made 81. At Wilson Road in Penal, discarded T&T batsman Gregory Mahabir carved out a century for FC Clarke Road United but it was all in vain as Moosai’s Sports held on for a draw. Mahabir hit a flawless 109 off 148 balls which included 14 fours and a six in his team’s total of 300 for six declared. Leaders Powergen maintained their lead at the top of the standings with a first innings victory against defending champions Ceramic Merry Boys Sports at Syne Village in Penal.
