T&T CRICKET BOARD & BGTT UNDER-17 FINAL
April 28th 2009

Jawahir guides East to third Inter-Zone title

Anthony Jawahir, stroked an elegant unbeaten 82 to guide East to the T&TCB and BGTT Under-17 title, when they defeated South by eight wickets in the final yesterday at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.

The left-handed Hillview College’s batsman faced 133 balls and struck four fours as his team chasing a victory target of 157 reached their landmark for the loss of two wickets with eight overs to spare. Jawahir received good support from Adrian Geeban (33) and Vikash Mohan (30 not out).

Earlier, South opted for first strike and were restricted to 156 for eight from the allotted 50 overs. Emmanuel Lett topscored with 65. CEO and General Secretary of the T&TCB, Forbes Persaud said that the East Zone must be complimented for winning three Inter-Zone titles this season.

“ The move by the T&TCB to have the East Zone re-established has clearly vindicated the board’s decision. When the board was in deliberations, several detractors were oppose to it, but it has clearly shown now that the board was in the right direction,” Persaud told the Guardian.
