SECONDARY SCHOOLS CRICKET LEAGUE INTERCOL QUARTERFINALS ‘Pres’, ‘El Do’ cruise into ‘semis’ Defending champions Presentation College, Chaguanas cruised into the ‘semis’ of the 2009 PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League InterCol competition, when they defeated Toco Composite by 106 runs, yesterday, at Honeymoon Pak in Tacarigua. ‘Pres’ led by good batting and bowling performances from national youth players — Yannick Ottley and Derone Davis respectively overwhelmed their opponents without breaking into a sweat. Batting first, ‘Pres’ tallied a competitive 195 for nine in the allotted 30 overs, with good scores from Ottley (46) and Keiron Joseph (45). In reply, Toco folded for 89 with West Indies youth left-arm spinner Davis picking up four wickets for 12 runs. There were two wickets apiece for former T&T and West Indies youth opening batsman - Adrian Barath (2-12) and Qadir Shah (2-18). At Barrackpore, National league champions - El Dorado Secondary stayed on course for the notable double with a 97-run-win against Barrackpore Secondary Comprehensive. ‘El Do’ were indebted to a match winning allround performance from Travis Karim who made 73 in his team’s innings of 211 for six, and then bagged three wickets for 11 runs. There were also wins for Princes Town Comprehensive and Hillview College. In the ‘semis’ carded for Monday, ‘Pres’ will meet ‘El Do’ at Inshan Ali Park, while P Town and Hillview will clash at Inshan Ali Park.
