POWERGEN SECONDARY SCHOOLS CRICKET LEAGUE
May 4th 2009

‘Pres’, P Town to meet in InterCol final

Defending champions Presentation College, Chaguanas and Princes Town Senior Comprehensive will meet in the final of the PowerGen Secondary Schools League InterCol tournament, after they recorded victories in the ‘semis’ yesterday.

The final will be played under lights and is carded for May 22 at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-PIerre, starting at 5 pm.

At the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, league champions El Dorado Secondary were undermined by a determined ‘Pres’ outfit. After being inserted, ‘El Do’ were skittled out for a modest 134 with three balls of the allotted 30 overs remaining.

T&T and West Indies youth left-arm spinner Derone Davis emerged as the bowling hero for ‘Pres’ with figures of four for 21 from six overs.

Davis was well supported by former West Indies youth opening batsman Adrian Barath, who turned bowler and bagged two for 22.

T&T Under-19 wicketkeeper Aaron Alfred topscored for ‘El Do’ with a fluent 52 which included four fours off 67 deliveries.

In response, ‘Pres’ cruised to victory in 27.5 overs, with Barath hitting 45 off 54 balls with two fours and a six, while Davis continued to impress with his allround ability scoring an important 25.

At the nearby Inshan Ali Park in Preysal, Princes Town Senior Comprehensive registered a four-wicket-win against Hillvew College of Tunapuna.

Batting first, Hillview were routed for a dismal 127 in 28.1 overs. Only Dion Smith (32) and Dwayne Cockburn (29) offered resistance to the potent spin and pace attack of the Princes Town team.

Leaders bowlers for the Southerners were Navin Kanhai (3-12) and T&T opening batsman Evin Lewis (3-31) with three wickets apiece.

In reply, P Town, had suffered several hiccups on their way to victory, finally reaching the target in 23.1 overs. Topscorers were Amando Patterson with 48 and Naresh Siewnarine 38.
