Jagroop, Solozano share spotlight

Right-arm off-spinner Varendra Jagroop emerged as one of the shining stars at the completion of Round One matches in the T&T Cricket Board/BGTT sponsored Under-13 competition last Tuesday.

The Presentation College, Chaguanas student bagged nine wickets for 12 runs to lead defending joint champions - Central to a massive 152-run win against South-East at the Cunjal Road Recreation Ground in Barrackpore.

Sharing the spotlight with Jagroop was T&T U-15 batsman Jeremy Solozano, who slammed 150 for East against Tobago at Shaw Park in Scarborough.

East Zone batsmen went on a run spree as they hammered their opponents' attack to come away with a huge victory by 263 runs.

East batted first and amassed the mammoth total of 322 for two at the end of 45 overs. Also scoring a century for East was Jamalee Johnson who made an unbeaten 100.

In their turn at the crease Tobago could only muster 59 before they were bowled out.

Brian Christmas bagged four wickets for two runs and Deoraj Narine claimed two for two.

Also registering victories were joint defending champions South Zone, who defeated South West by 107 runs at Syne Village Penal, and North, who beat North East by 118 runs.

The second round of matches will be played tomorrow.

AT SHAW PARK: East 322-2 (Jeremy Solozano 150, Jamalee Johnson 100 not out) v Tobago 59 all out (Brian Christmas 4-2, Deoraj Narine 2-2). East won by 263 runs.

AT CUNJAL ROAD: Central 206 (Nicholas Pooran 79, Kamal Pooran 59) v South-East 54 (Varendra Jagroop 9-12). Central won by 152 runs

AT BROOKLYN: North 267 (Jeffrey Bootan 80, Carl Vialva 74 not out) v North 149 (Carl Vialva 3-34). North won by 118 runs.

AT SYNE VILL.: South 160 (Keron Kanhai 54, Justin Sookram 24, Keiron Ramlal 4-16) v South-West 53 (Keron Kanhai 4-9). South won by 107 runs.
