PowerGen stretches lead with an outright win
.... Siloch, Moonasar in record opening stand

PowerGen Sports stayed on course for their third Premiership title, when they registered an emphatic innings and 38-run win against W Connection Wanderers in Round Eight of the Eastern Credit Union Premier Division competition, yesterday at Syne Village in Penal.

The win enabled the ‘Electricity Boys’ to stay on top of the 10-team-standings on 115 points, 20 more than second placed Tile Depot Central Sports with 95.

PowerGen previously won the title in 2000 and 2006.

There are three more rounds in the competition remaining. Led by T&T allrounder Samuel Badree, PowerGen resumed on their bedtime position of 309 for five and went on to declare on 353 for eight , to establish an important 217-run lead.

Batting a second time, Wanderers crumbled against the potent spin attack employed by Badree and were dismissed for 179 to give the home team victory and 29 important points. Only former Barbados and West Indies youth captain Shamarh Brooks (45) and T&T fast bowler Navin Stewart (57) offered resistance.

Leading bowlers for the Southerners were skipper Badree (3-31) and left-arm spinners Rishi Bachan (2-45) and Dave Mohammed (2-72).

Also moving up the ladder was Queen’s Park Cricket Club, who scored a resounding innings and 24-run win against former champions Clico Preysal Sports at the Queen’s Park Oval.

Preysal resumed on 93 for five, in pursuit of the ‘Parkites’ challenging first innings total and were routed for 125, with discarded West Indies off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth in his debut season for Queen’s Park picking up four for 20.

Asked to follow-on, the Preysal batsmen found the going tough against the probing spin of Jaggernauth and were bundled out for 179.

Jaggernauth grabbed six for 31, to end with a match analysis of 10 for 51. The ‘Parkites’ collected 28 points from the encounter, while Preysal picked up five.

At Cunupia Recreation Ground, Tile Depot Central Sports stayed in contention for top honours with an exciting 44-run win against Munroe Road Sports, while at Honeymoon Park in Tacarigua, defending champions Ceramic Merry Boys Sports leaped into third position in the table when they defeated relegation -doomed Moosai’s Sports by 107 runs.

At Wilson Road in Penal, FC Clarke Road led by centuries from Sean Siloch (155) and Mahadeo Moonasar (126) picked up first innings points against Alescon Comets.

Chasing Comets’ first innings score of 221, Clarke Road declared at 325 for four.

Siloch and Moonasar figured in a record breaking opening partnership of 281. Siloch’s innings was laced with 14 fours and a six, while Moonasar knock included 11 fours and a five.

In arrears by 104 runs. Comets reached 217 for seven when the match ended.
