UNION PREMIER DIVISION NATIONAL LEAGUE Holder, Ragoonath, Pooran hit hundreds in Premier Division Impressive Barbados allrounder Alcindo Holder stroked an elegant 117 to guide defending champions Ceramic Merry Boys Sports into a position of strength against W Connection Wanderers in the penultimate round of the Eastern Credit Union Premier Division at the St Mary’s College grounds in St Clair, here on Saturday. The 26-year-old Holder who last represented Barbados in the 2008 Regional Series struck 14 fours and three sixes off 145 balls to guide the Diego Martin-based team to a competitive 280 against the Central visitors. He shared in an enterprising fourth wicket partnership of 161 with discarded T&T batsman Aneil Kanhai who contributed 66 which included six fours. Leading bowler for Wanderers was West Indies Twenty20 batsman William Perkins who grabbed three for 24. Perkins received good support from Nicholas Ramjass with three for 47 and national fast bowler Atiba Allert two for 53. In reply, Wanderers closed on 136 for four, with Perkins hitting 80. Best bowler so far for Merry Boys is Holder with two for 42. Elsewhere at Pierre Road in Charlieville, Alescon Comets led by a fine allround performance from former T&T and West Indies opening batsman Suruj Ragoonath were in a strong position to secure an outright win over relegation-doomed Moosai’s Sports. With a four-wicket haul by talented T&T allrounder Imran Khan, Moosai’s were routed for a meagre 61. Khan had a tremendous season in the Regional Series this season, and continued in that same vein in the local domestic competition as he bagged four wickets for 11 run from nine overs. He received good support from Ragoonath who had figures of three wickets for 17 runs from 9.4 overs. In response, Comets who had T&T skipper Daren Ganga in their line-up for the first time this season, declared at 218 for five with Ragoonath hitting an unbeaten 100 off 73 balls with 15 fours. He shared in an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 166 with Guyanese national Imtiaz Haq, who made 63, with nine fours. Moosai’s in arrears by 157 runs were battling on 92 for three and will need a miracle to deny the home team an outright win. At the Presentation College grounds in Chaguanas, former T&T youth left-arm spinner Dane Teelucksingh with five for 34 and Windward Islands left-arm pacer Kenroy Peters three for 14, combined well to help FC Clarke Road to skittle out Tile Depot Central Sports for a paltry 116. Clarke Road in reply were cruising along on 218 for four when play ended, with former Guyana middle-order batsman Homchand Pooran hitting an unbeaten 117 with 14 fours. And in the top of the table clash, PowerGen Sports were 262 for nine against Queen’s Park in a rain affected match at Syne Village in Penal. There were half-centuries from national players — Sherwin Ganga (65) and Gibran Mohammed (55). Matches conclude on Sunday.
