T&TCB BLUE WATERS “NO LOSERS” INTER ZONE 20 OVERS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
July 5, 2009

Esperanza soaks Santa Cruz

Ali’s Roadstars Esperanza Sports led by a hattrick from Guyanese-born allrounders Garvin Singh and an unbeaten half-century from Maxie De Jonge registered its first lien in the inaugural Blue Waters InterZone T20 Club Championship, when it defeated Santa Cruz Sports by nine wickets in a one-sided final.

Yesterday, before a large crowd at the Esperanza Recreation Ground, the home team brisk-cantered to victory in 16.1 overs.

Santa Cruz led by allrounder Dexter Sweene won the toss and opted for first strike. Led by 30 from Gobin Maniram, the visitors were restricted to 130 for nine in the allotted 20 overs. Leading wickettakers for Esperanza were Singh with three for 18 (including hattrick) and Dave Ramlogan two for 15.

In response, Esperanza paced by a whirlwing 88 with five sixes and seven fours from ‘Man of the Match’ De Jonge cruised to victory without a bother. Also contributing well with the bat was Singh who made 27 not out.

Esperanza collected $12,000 plus the prestigious Blue Waters trophy, while Santa Cruz pocketed $8,000 for their efforts.
