Regional Under-19 Cricket Challenge Cariah cracks century against Windwards The 17-year-old left-handed batsman, who attends the El Dorado Secondary School and went through all of the Age-Group cricket programmes under the guidance of the Clico Preysal team, showed grit and determination against the opposition inconsistent bowling attack. Cariah, a resident of Coalmine,Tamana lashed 106 off 136 balls which was enriched with nine fours and a six. Cariah was the main architect in his team’s innings and 64 run-win against hosts Jamaica with match figures of eight for 77, in the opening game of the series. He shared in a vital third wicket partnership of 137 with the left-handed Evin Lewis who registered his fifty of the tournament with an aggressive 77 laced with nine fours and four sixes. The stand ended when Lewis was caught by Audie
Alexander off Kaveem Hodge’s bowling, with T&T on 169 for three, while
Cariah was the fifth to go at 258 caught by Rudolph Paul off Alexander’s
bowling. The T&T ‘s innings thereafter folded. Leading bowler for the Windwards was Alexander with three for 44, while there were two wickets apiece for John Fabien (2-41), Josh Thomas (2-49) and Dalton Polius (2-89). Earlier, T&T fielded the same combination that played against Jamaica. Asked to take first strike, T&T lost their two openers and were soon reduced to 32 for two inside the first hour of play. Nicholas Alexis was caught by Dalton Polius off John Fabien’s bowling for eight, while Marc Panchu was caught by Paul for 16. The exciting Cariah and Lewis then figured in their
face-saving partnership with a wide array of shots blended with sensible
running that took the sting out of the Windwards’ bowling attack. At Jamaica Broilers |
